How to lock a punch needle project with fabric backing

The key to a professional finish: blocking with backing fabric

Backing fabric is an option for finishing and adding texture to your punch needle project. It's a durable, heat-sealable fabric that facilitates a clean finish and reinforces the structure of the embroidery, ensuring the loops stay in place over time.

In this video tutorial, we'll show you how to apply backing fabric quickly and easily. All you need is an iron and a few basic steps to achieve a perfect result.

Steps to lock a punch needle project

Materials needed:

✔ Backing fabric suitable for punch needle
✔ Iron without steam
✔ Scissors to trim excess fabric

1. Cut the backing fabric

Before applying, cut the backing fabric smaller than your project size, approximately 1-2 cm smaller than the embroidery. This will prevent overhang once applied and allow for a clean finish.

2. Prepare the embroidery

Make sure your design is completely finished and the stitches are secure before applying the backing fabric. Make sure you've trimmed all excess threads from the loop side.

3. Apply heat with the iron

Place the backing fabric over the back of the embroidery and apply heat with a non-steam iron. Use smooth, even strokes so the fabric adheres properly without wrinkles. Thanks to its thermoadhesive property, the backing fabric will be firmly attached to the design.

4. Check the fixing and adjust if necessary

If any area isn't properly adhered, reapply heat with the iron and press gently. For extra reinforcement, you can add fabric glue to the edges.

Tips for a better result
